Air conditioning

It’s that time of year again where our offices become stuffy and warm, especially with a lot of computers running. But, did you know that your air conditioning could cost you around £20 a day if you run if for 8 hours solid? That is a huge expenditure. Now, don’t worry, we know you cant just turn off the air con, but here are some tips to reduce the cost:

  •  Make sure all the doors and windows are closed to keep the space at one temperature. This will make it easier for the air conditioning unit to cool the air.
  •  If you haven’t already, have sensors fitted so that the air con comes on automatically during working hours, once the temperature gets too hot. It will also automatically switch off, once the desired temperature is achieved. This will stop people switching it on and leaving it on all day.
  •  Make sure your employees and colleagues turn off the air con before leaving the room for the day. You’ll be surprised how much you could save.

Computers

If you run an office with a lot of computers, you can expect your energy usage to be pretty high. However, you can keep the costs down by making sure all the computers are fully switched off overnight. This can be a simple ping from the IT office, to switch off all computers not in active use half an hour after closing time.

The fridge

Keeping things cold is hard work and takes a lot of electricity. If your company needs a fridge, make sure that it is set at 4 degrees and no lower. This is optimal temperature and the lower you set the fridge, the more electricity it uses.

In addition, you should also have your fridge tested to make sure it is running efficiently. In some cases, you may be better off getting rid of your fridge and replacing it with a more energy efficient model.
