How to save energy in student accommodation
So how can you save electricity in student accommodation? Well, there are several ways. Each requiring a different amount of investment. Lets take a look:
- LEDs- switching over to LED lights is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to start to save money. You will need to spend a little more on LED lights, and it is possible that some of your light fixtures will need to be altered, but after this initial investment, you will notice a big difference. LED lighting is incredibly energy efficient, especially when compared to other lighting types. LED lights last for 50 times longer than an incandescent bulb, and 25 times longer than a halogen, and they use very little electricity. This means that LED lighting is the perfect option for landlords hoping to create more energy efficient property.
- Motion lighting- for a slightly higher investment, you could consider motion lighting. Motion lighting will remove all possibility of lights being left on endlessly for days at a time. This is because they are activated by motion, and so will automatically switch on when necessary, and then switch off again too. This is perfect for shared areas like corridors, kitchens and stairwells.
